Zeynep Sönmez

Zeynep Sönmez was born in Istanbul in 1986 and completed her primary and secondary education in the city. She began studying ebru (Turkish marbling) during her secondary education under Sadreddin Özçimi and received her ijazah in ebru in 2010. She has taught ebru in Istanbul, Bologna, and Washington, D.C., and has participated in various exhibitions.

She graduated from the Department of History at Marmara University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, in 2011. In 2020, she began her Master’s studies in the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University and completed her thesis titled “Marbled Bindings in the İbrahim Hakkı Konyalı Library” in 2023. In the same year, she commenced her Proficiency in Art (equivalent to PhD) studies in the Bookbinding (Cilt) Department of the Traditional Turkish Arts program at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, where she continues her education and produces works in the field of bookbinding.
